About the Game of Inches

GOI was born on Jan. 5th, 2020 midway through the M20 edition.  Phil, John, Konnor, Ray and a handful of us played in league that had great concepts and ideas, but was run by a completely toxic person.  The toxicity ran throughout the league and led to bullying, rage, favoritism, and an environment where active players left and good players were pushed out.

Enter John Wilson, sometimes referred to as the Godfather or, due to his old age, the grandfather of GOI.  He approached other players who he felt shared a common outlook.  He and Phil Nassoiy laid the groundwork to create a league that would be different.  A league where being a commissioner means you are held to a higher standard and suffer heavier penalties for violating our rules.  A place where how we treat each other is more important than wins, speed of play or bragging rights.  John is embarrassingly proud of the fact that he is probably one of the few, if not only, commissioners in the history of Madden to have a winless season!

At this point Phil and John began recruiting similar-minded individuals who were interested in a long-term league that would focus on making a band of brothers who wanted to win, but not at the expense of a friend.

At the center of the league is the belief that the rule book will never be something that is not read or cared about.  We take pride in not letting rules slide, even moreso when a commissioner is involved.

From that start the league continued to grow and adapt based the input of our GM’s.

The commissioners do their best to lead by example and help each others find success with this (sometimes) hellacious game called Madden. The first few seasons of the league saw about 50% turnover of GM’s as they worked to find people looking for the same things.  Today, GOI has grown into one of the most closest families / brotherhoods of any league.

There are still a number of original GM’s active and more that remain in our server.  Even when life does not have time for football, we all have time for each other.  We are confident through these values of sportsmanship, fair play, and helping each other that GOI will continue to add the best GM’s in the game of Madden!

John, a native of Massachusetts, is a life long Patriots fan who has resided in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains for the past 20-years.  He is married with five children with a 15 and 12-year old still at home.

Phil (center) likes partnering with John because in any other Madden league he would be the old man, but staying near John makes him still seem young!

A native of Florida, Phil has always been in the Gainesville area where he runs his family’s auto dealership while raising his two children with his wife of 14-years.  Phil is pretty much an all teams Florida-homer.

The most recent addition to our commissioners group is Colin.  His first responsibility is to keep the average age of the commissioners under retirement age!

Moreover, Colin is one of the most considerate members of the league who is unrivaled in sportsmanship and spirit. A lot like John, he is still looking for the winning formula, but he is undefeated in our book.

The “Commissioner of the People”, Konnor holds our only elected position where the GM’s of the league vote for a representative for a two-season term.

Konnor was here at the beginning, was a big part of the framework of the league and bleeds GOI.

The Commissioner's Code of Conduct

Every GOI commissioner has to agree to and follow this Code of Conduct.

  • Lead by Example – follow the rules, schedule games, etc. If we ever violate a rule, we will take heavier punishments than the norm.
  • Stay active in chat. In general, we expect commissioners to check Discord a few times per day.  We expect votes (trade and otherwise) and tags to be responded to in at least 12-24 hours.
  • Respond to @commissioner posts in a timely manner.
  • We are a team with equal voices. All votes carry the same weight.
  • The Golden Rule – display good sportsmanship. When we are a you are in a game we act only as a GM and not as a commissioner. We recuse ourselves from any game we are a part of.
